The RIB registered in a personal space on France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi) conditions the payment of unemployment benefits. Any error or delay in updating these bank details can postpone a payment by several days or even temporarily block compensation. Since January 1, 2024, Pôle emploi has become France Travail (law n°2023-1196 of December 26, 2023), but the procedure for modifying the RIB remains the same in principle.
RIB, IBAN, and BIC: what France Travail really expects
A RIB (bank identity statement) includes three pieces of information: the IBAN code, the BIC code, and the account holder’s name. France Travail requires that the account be in the name of the job seeker. A joint account is accepted as long as the name of the beneficiary is included.

The document submitted must be legible, not truncated, and contain all of these details. A simple blurry scan or a partial screenshot from a banking app will result in rejection and prolong the processing time. The PDF format remains the most reliable to avoid this type of incident.
A rarely anticipated point concerns neobanks and prepaid cards. RIBs issued by institutions like N26, Revolut, or PCS are more often subject to manual verification. Validation times are then significantly longer than the average time observed with a traditional French bank. In some cases, an additional statement from the account holder is required, particularly for prepaid cards like PCS Mastercard.

Making a change of RIB on Pôle Emploi therefore requires checking in advance that the submitted document meets these criteria, especially if the account is held with an online institution.

Modify your RIB in the France Travail personal space: online process
The modification is done exclusively from the online personal space. No modification of bank details is possible by phone. The interface has changed its URL and presentation since the transition to France Travail, but the functional path remains the same.
Access the correct section
After logging in to francetravail.fr, the section to use is “My exchanges with France Travail,” then “Submit a document.” The RIB cannot be modified directly in the profile settings: a new document must be sent that will be processed by an advisor.
Specifically, the steps are as follows:
- Log in to the personal space with your France Travail credentials (old Pôle emploi credentials are still valid).
- Go to the section “My exchanges with France Travail” and then click on “Submit a document.”
- Select the document type “RIB” and upload the file (PDF, JPEG, or PNG that is legible, with IBAN, BIC, and account holder’s name visible).
- Confirm the submission and keep the digital acknowledgment of receipt displayed on the screen.
Verification and processing time
The processing of the new RIB is not automatic. An advisor manually checks the compliance of the document. For a RIB issued by a traditional French bank, the update is generally effective within a few working days.
With a RIB from a neobank or a foreign institution, this time may be significantly extended. In case of rejection, a notification appears in the personal space, requesting resubmission or additional documents.
Common mistakes that delay RIB updates
Several situations frequently arise in the feedback from beneficiaries and deserve to be anticipated.
An illegible document remains the primary cause of rejection. Photos taken with a phone, poorly framed or in low resolution, are rejected. Prioritizing the download of the RIB in PDF format from the bank’s app or website eliminates this problem.
An account in the name of a third party (spouse, parent) without the job seeker being a co-holder also causes a blockage. France Travail can only pay benefits into an account whose holder matches the identity recorded in the file.
Another pitfall: modifying your RIB just before a payment date. If the new RIB has not yet been validated at the time of the transfer, the payment goes to the old account, or is not issued at all in the case of its closure. The safest approach is to submit the change as soon as the new RIB is received, without waiting for the monthly update period.

Special case: closed bank account or invalid RIB
When the old account is already closed before the new RIB is registered, the transfer from France Travail is rejected by the issuing bank. The amount is not lost: it returns to France Travail, which keeps it pending for new valid details.
The procedure in this specific case is to submit the new RIB as quickly as possible via the personal space, then contact an advisor (by messaging or in agency) to report the situation. The blocked payment is reissued once the new RIB is validated, but a delay of several additional days should be expected.
If the job seeker temporarily has no active bank account, they can contact the Banque de France to exercise their right to an account, which requires a designated institution to open an account with basic banking services.
Changing bank details with France Travail does not present major technical difficulties, but the manual nature of the verification requires careful attention to the quality of the submitted document and not waiting until the last moment. A legible RIB, in the correct name, sent in PDF format a few days before the usual payment date is sufficient to avoid almost all incidents reported by beneficiaries.
